Walls of Dalt Vila, Ibiza

The Walls of Dalt Vila

Ibiza

The walls mark the perimeter of the oldest part of the city.

The ancient city walls, built in the 16th century to protect it from Turkish attacks, took forty years to construct. The walled enclosure is shaped like an irregular heptagon with defensive bastions at each corner. There are several entrances to the site, the main one being the Portal de Ses Taules. Other important entrances include the Portal Nou, the Portella de Sella and the Es Soto Fosc tunnel. The walls contain an important historical legacy, declared a World Heritage Site.
