Important works of art
The complex houses a collection of paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
The Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts exhibits some of the masterpieces of Spanish, Italian and Flemish art. It contains paintings by Goya, Zurbarán, Ribera, Leandro Bassano, Rubens, Mengs, Van Loo, Madrazo, Velázquez, Haes, Sorolla, Juan Gris... There is also a huge collection of sculptures that showcase how Spanish sculpture has evolved from the 17th-century to the current times, with works by Manuel Pereira, Pedro de Mena, Mariano Benlliure, Picasso and Pablo Gargallo, among others. In addition, it has a very important and varied collection of drawings that span from the 16th to the 21st century.
