The museum is divided into two large areas: The section dedicated to Fine Arts and the Archaeology section.

The archaeological section of the museum focuses on prehistoric cultures, the Roman world and the Visigoth era, especially with pieces from nearby sites. The Fine Arts section offers an overview of 14th to 20th century sculpture and paintings, along with a large sample of painters from the province of Jaén.
