Basque Railway Museum
Azpeitia
A leading museum in Europe
The exhibition features nearly a hundred railway vehicles of all types.
Housed in the old Azpeitia station, from which a network of tracks and pavilions covering 25,000 square metres has been extended, the museum has a large and rich permanent collection. In addition to the old means of transportation, there is also an important display of railway clocks.Every weekend, from April to November, a steam train that departs from the museum's own tracks covers the five kilometres that separate Azpeitia and Lasao. It is an experience that allows visitors to savour the charm of railway travel from bygone times. Visitors can also see how one of the only mechanical workshops preserved since the beginning of the century is still running. The museum has educational material for children so that they can learn about and appreciate the importance of this means of transport.
