It is built on a Roman temple, which later became a mosque and, during the reign of Ferdinand III, was converted to Christian worship in honour of the Natividad de Nuestra Señora y San Isidro.
This building has undergone numerous transformations, so it has elements from different periods. However, it is currently predominantly Renaissance. The first two sections of the apse have Gothic pillars and cross vaults. It preserves two doors on the outside: Perdón, in Gothic style and Luna, of Mudéjar influence. Inside, attention must be drawn to the Renaissance grille of the Tabernacle chapel, the grille in the old choir and the grille in the sacristy (in Gothic style). The cloister is also Gothic in style and has four Mudejar chapels and one Gothic one. The Golden Chapel is the most important in the cathedral. It is Renaissance with clear Italian influence.
