Exhibition: White, Black and Mixed Race: Five Centuries of Hispanic-Americans in the Army

The exhibition pays tribute to Hispanic-American soldiers for the participation of indigenous, creole, mestizo and Afro-descendant Americans in the Spanish armies throughout history. Visitors will be able to enjoy original pieces of uniforms, weapons, miniatures, flags and numerous documents with graphics and explanatory texts.

The exhibition is divided into several thematic areas: “The Crossroads of Two Worlds,” which addresses the role of indigenous men and women in the alliance system of the conquistadors from the 15th to the 17th century; “Defenders of the Indies,” which shows the Spanish defensive system in America and the role of local militias in key battles; and “Under the King's Flags,” which focuses on the loyalty of indigenous people to the Spanish Crown during the wars of independence.It also has an Epilogue: From “Africa to Afghanistan”, which highlights the Hispanic-American presence in contemporary armies, from the Spanish Civil War to the present day.
