The centenary of the publication of André Breton's First Manifesto of Surrealism is the starting point for exploring the impact that the artistic movement had in Spain and the role that women, with Gala Dalí as a central figure, played within the group.
Going beyond the main Spanish figures in surrealism, this exhibition brings back to light the numerous artists who reinterpreted this movement from their own perspectives without adhering to the dictates emerging from Paris. In addition to these alternative discourses and figures, the exhibition places particular emphasis on women, both Spanish and international, such as Maruja Mallo, Remedios Varo and Grete Stern, who were the great forgotten figures of the surrealist movement.
