It is part of the Valles Pasiegos region, in Cantabria. In addition to lush nature, it boasts a distinctive agricultural landscape shaped over five centuries and a rich cultural and ethnographic heritage. This area, a finalist in the European Commission's EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) programme in recognition of its sustainable tourism offering, offers a multitude of opportunities for visitors.

The valley is characterised by the way in which the natural and man-made landscapes come together, as the region, populated since the Palaeolithic, has a strong rural character, in which traditional trades have started to develop, such as blacksmithing, carpentry, livestock farming, among others.The cultural legacy of towns, such as Vega de Pas, San Pedro del Romeral, Puente Viesgo and Castillo Cave (with examples of Upper Palaeolithic cave paintings), the Díez Villegas Manor House in Corvera de Toranzo, the parish church of the Assumption in Acereda, the architecture of Alceda. You can also visit museums dedicated to rural life, such as the Ethnographic Museum of Villas Pasiegas. As for its nature, its meadows, oak groves and beech forests stand out. This is the perfect spot for different activities, such as hunting, fishing, horse riding, hiking, and many others Its spa tradition and its gastronomy (with products such as sobaos and quesadas) complete what you will find there.
