Canyoning or descent through canyons

The best time to go canyoning is the spring and summer months, although you can also do it in autumn.Although there are plenty of places to try canyoning in Spain, Guara Mountain Range and Canyons Nature Reserve (Huesca, Aragón), is outstanding, with one of the highest concentrations of canyons in Europe.The Pyrenees in general, and especially Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park and Picos de Europa National Park are very popular areas for canyoning in northern Spain.In the central area, the areas of the nature reserves of Serranía de Cuenca and Alto Tajo (Castilla-La Mancha) and north of Extremadura, including Valle del Jerte, La Vera and Las Hurdes.Some of the most important pots in the south include Garganta Verde of the Sierra de Grazalema Nature Reserve (Cadiz), and the descent of rivers including Río Verde (Granada), the Trévelez (Sierra Nevada) and the Guadalmina (Malaga), for example.

Meanwhile, in Catalonia, there are plenty of options for seeing the Catalan Pyrenees from the air or volcanic landscapes in the Olot Valley, in the La Garrotxa region, which has the highest concentration of volcanoes on the Iberian Peninsula.Another option is to fly over long stretches of vineyards in La Rioja, seeing the Pyrenees in the distance. Or perhaps over fields of olive trees and oaks in Andalusia and Toledo (Castilla-La Mancha).
